What do I think about this Course?

In my opinion, the New Media course was quiet interesting. At the beginning, I did not know that much about media in school and how a teacher can inclue it into his/her lessons. Without this course I would have had to try out how effective different kinds of media are and how students react to them. I am sure that it would have been a very long process until I would have found my way to deal with that broad topic.
This course helped me to gain a better understanding of the role of media in school. Formerly unknown tools - like delicious or tagul - will play an important role in my future life as a teacher and I plan to include and use them very often. We also talked about statistics and heard some numbers concerning the student's media equipment at home and its role in their everyday life. This information is very helpful by planning homework including the internet. I now know that this will be no problem because most students will have access to the internet in their freetime.
The fieldtrip to the Martin Luther Schule was also very interesting. Although I had an internship at a school in Marburg I did not really focus on it's media equipment. Therefore, it was a good experience to walk into a school with the intention to find out what kind of media they have and whether they think that it is enough. I was surpised about the fact that they have just a few copy machines for the teachers and that this is a huge problem for them. I would have thought that the access to copy machines is better in German schools.
Last but not least, I am thankful for all the homepages we looked at. Until the beginning of the semester, I did not really look up homepages for teachers and had no idea what kind of webpages I would need in the future and how I can access them. Now, I got a small insight into this "internet branch" and have a starting point for further investigations. Especially delicious will help me to find new homepages for teachers.
