My teaching idea

Picture
The picture on the left shows an exemplary result of my teaching idea. The students are supposed to use bitstrips.com (explanation can be found on the "Additional pieces of work" part of my homepage). Of course, the teacher will have to familarize the students with the homepage in previous lessons. The topic for my teaching idea is "Objects in the classroom", part of grade five in the G8-curriculum. the students have 17 minutes to create one picture using bitstrips.com. They are supposed to include as many people and objects as possible in a classroom setting. When finished, they exchange they pictures with other students and answer the two tasks "Where are the people and objects?" and "What are the people doing?" until the lesson is finished. The teacher provides help if needed. In the end, he/she collects all the answers and corrects them at home.

I think that this is a useful task, which could be very interesting for students. Because of their young age they will enjoy working on the comic and finding all he small details in the pictures of their friends. Of course, it is a lot of preparation to explain them how bitstrips works and what they can do with this program, but in my opinion they learn for the future. Bitstrips can be used several times after this lesson and will proably be fun for most of the students.
This teaching idea practices the student's media and writing skills, their vocabulary and their understanding of prepositions. They can probably find a connection to the situation on the pictures and will feel a connection to their own life.
